Raleigh Mountain Bikes 2008

Raleigh mountain bikes are well known in the South African market for innovation, value and excellent after sales service. They have just released their new range of mountain bikes for 2008. The Elite Range consists of the RM hardtails and Marathon range is the full suspension bike option. Their Trail Series, introduced in 2007 is back again with some great looking and excellent value bikes. Visitors to the Raleigh website will have seen some glimpses of the new products under development, slipped out via some of their blogs.

Big news on the bikes for 2008 is a 2 year race refined monocouqe carbon frame for the RM LTD edition, painted in pimping yellow to fit in with the Raleigh MTN Energade team colours. This bike is specced with XTR and FOX fork. All the top models in the Elite range are sporting the FOX RL32 fork and DT Swiss 1450 wheel set, an improvement from the previous models and slightly heavier DT Swiss 1540 wheels. The top range Marathon full suspension has been renamed Marathon LTD and also has the new FOX fork and a black and grey paint job.

Raleigh RM LTDThe RM 9 has a full set of brand new shimano XT 2008 components. This new XT range looks like the new XTR and has some great functionality and weight improvements. The RM 8 and RM 7 both have the new XT derailleur which is great. RM 9 and 8 are full carbon, the RM 7 and 6 are alloy/carbon hybrids and the rest of the bikes are 6061 alloy.

The other big news is the addition of 5 models to the successful Trail range of bikes. Sporting classy paint jobs and great spec levels this bike range offers something for everyone, beginner through intermediate.

Raleigh 2008 Mountain Bike Specs

RM Range

The flagship RM LTD hardtail model features a uni-directional Carbon Fibre monocoque frame that has been developed and refined over a 2 year period on the race circuit. The no frills race weapon represents the lightest and most responsive frame in the range.

Raleigh says "For 2008 we have once again specced it with the components and parts that our South African National Marathon Champion, Kevin Evans, requests. A complete Shimano XTR groupset coupled with the, even lighter for 08, DT SWISS XR1450 wheelset – this bike is locked and loaded! Our friends at FOX Racing Shox are supplying their premium cross country racing fork, the F32RLC complete with new chassis and even industry leading suspension performance."

Marathon Full Suspension

It seems like everybody and their sub-brand are going back to Single Pivot designs? Why? Well, there are some very obvious reasons for using this design: 1. Lightweight 2. Low ( No ) maintenance 3. Improved suspension systems available on the market 4. Proven!

Raleigh says "Whilst many are introducing their first single-pivot suspension frames, we are already onto our 3rd generation frame and definitely our best yet. We’ve added some gusseting to our rear triangle for increased durability ( not everybody is a sub 70kg race snake after all ) and once again specced our bikes with the best bang for your rands!"

Whether you are a regular on the Cape Epic start line or just wanting a bike to enjoy the local trails and not get beat up – there is a MARATHON model for you.

Trail Range

Raleigh Namib - Trail RangeAfter the overwhelming success of the 2007 Trail Range Raleigh added a further 5 models to the range for 2008!

Not happy to just revise the graphics, the new line features new frame designs, lighter weights and even more value than before.

Raleigh says "Starting with our top 3 models ( Namib, Dakar , Canyon ) we developed an all-new Custom Butted 7005 Series Alloy frame. The Namib is the new flagship and is definitely blurring the lines between the “do anything, hit the dirt “ Trail range and the “ Race-ready out the box” Elite range.

Further there are 3 new lady-specific models. For adults we have the Sahara model which offers a 24-Speed Shimano drivetrain with a women-specific frame design and a Suntour suspension fork complete with lockout function. For younger ladies we have the Starlet models available in 21-Speed 24” version as well as a 6-Speed 20” version. "

So, whatever your budget or needs, there is a bike for you! As usual Raleigh challenges competitors as they once again raise the bar for value-for-money bicycles.
