Singletrack addict Christie has been out riding some
USA MTB trails at Bootleg Canyon and Noble Canyon. See
how he rates these trails compared to his local trails
back home in SA.
Bootleg Canyon
Here's
some pictures of my rides at Bootleg Canyon this past
weekend.
It was an amazing
experience even though the trails were not marked
well.
I was a little nervous
on the technical stuff on Sat, but felt really good
today and really enjoyed it!
Their green routes are
not so technical and similar to the mtb singletrack in
Groenkloof, but the blue stuff is like the hiking
trails in Groenkloof, especially that one around the
contour on Botha ave side, and the black ones,
well.....
It was extremely hot
and humid, and spend both days only about 2 hours (=
20-25 km) there. And there's still quite a nr of
trails that I haven't done, hope to get the chance for
another weekend there!
Also no entry fee
charged, though they do have donation box.
Another week of sun and
dust and 45 deg C ahead! Might now only be back in SA
end of Sept!

Noble Canyon
Sat
morning I headed out to the Noble Canyon trail, about
50 miles east of San Diego. But was stupid enough to
only start riding at 10:00 and about 3/4 through ride
my water was finished due to the extreme heat and
physical demanding route, and with no water in sight,
I just had to complete ride to get back to car... the
28 km took me 3 hours...
The trail itself was
freakin awesome, with some very fast flowing swooping
sections and some really really technical rocky
sections. On some of these technical sections the
price for messing up could be fatal with high steep
cliffs on the sides.... And riding on your own one has
to be extra cautious
I did not take any pics
of the last 4 miles, because at stage I just wanted to
get back to the car, but the last 2 miles of the track
is definitely some of the best trails I have ever
ridden, with a good mix of steep rocky sections and
fast swooping corners
And again no complaints
about Minki, she took every thing in her stride and
made it so easy to pick a line through all those
rocks, still do not wish for any other bike! Just miss
my 180mm brake rotor up front...
I have to do this one
again, but this time I'll be there as soon as its
light enough to start riding to miss the heat!
Hopefully I'll get
another chance at Bootleg Canyon this coming weekend!
and get to see the Grand Canyon!
